【Abstract】 B. Sander’s (1930) fabric diagrams of harnisch-mylonites reflect the general law of the orientation of the crystollographic axes of quartz in the process of shear glide. Its geological implication lies in that the maximum of quartz axes can indicate the direction of shear glide. Evidence shows that fabric diagrams of harnisch-ultracataclasites and harnisch-cataclasites in some fractures are very complex. Some quartz fabric diagrams contain one or two or even more areas of concentration of quartz axes, which can indicate corresponding glide directions on glide planes. Besides, the author has also found diagrams showing spheroidal symmetry.The symmetry of quartz fabric in deformed rocks often does not correspond with the symmetry of componental movements in the process of shear under complex geological conditions.The types of symmetry of quartz fabric do not coincide with the mechanical properties of five categories of structural planes in geomechanics
