【Abstract】 The present work was carried out to investigate the effect of phenol on the respiratory center of the isolated fish’s head by a perfusion method.By means of this method the water quality could be evaluated for the detection of polluted water.Experiments were performed ia the common carps.Some experimental results are as follows:1.The respiratory center of the isolated fish’s head is very sensitive to the perfused phenol-containing fluid.This method is very convenient and reliable.Thus it is a good model for detecting polluted water.2.The respiration of isolated carp’s head is not influenced by 0.001 mg/L phenol-containing fluid,so this concentration may be regarded as a water quality criterion for phenol.3.The respiration of isolated carp’s head is strongly depressed in rate by 0.005 mg/L phenol.4.The respiration of isolated carp’s head is more depressed in rate by 0.01 mg/L phenol.This suggests that the water quality criteria for,phenol now in common use in our country should be reexamined or readjusted.更多还原
