【Abstract】 The present paper deals with the origin of the modern subtropic flora of Fujian. This flora is characterized by the predominance of evergreen broad-leaved plants. It comprises the floristic elements from the Holarctic and palacotropic. There are many tropical species and relic plants, present in modern flora. It is interesting to note that the flora of Fujian was less damaged during the glacial age of the Quaternary period. To summarize, evidences collected from the paleobotany, phytogeograyhy, palynology, plant taxomony, geology, geography etc. suggest that the modern subtropic flora o?Fujian is an old one and most of the elements are the direct descendents of the ancient flora from the Tertiary period. Some of the elements may be originated in Fujian. The formation of Fujian. flora is closely related to the geological history and geographical evolution of this territory.
