【Abstract】 The worldwide laboratory experiments and fundamental research work of oil shale in the last years are reviewed, where the formation of oil shale, structures and properties of kerogen, kinetics of pyrolysis, gasification and combustion of oil shale, analysis and processing of shale oil, as well as the comprehensive utilization of oil shale conversion products are presented.Some typical oil shale pyrolysis retorts are described. Among them are. internal gas heating type retorts for processing lump oil shale, and soid heat carrier heating type retorts for processing particulate oil shale.
