紫外光固化涂层光纤的强度特性

【摘要】 在光纤应用于光通信之前必须对它的机械强度作出评价。本文介绍炉拉法光固化树脂涂复的石英光纤,由于采用质量较好的石英玻璃支撑管和火法抛光,使其强度有了明显的改善。对于0.5m测量长度试样的快破断强度测定结果表明:最小值为2.2GN/m~2,算术平均值为3.8GN/m~2。在强度数据的韦布尔统计分布处理中出现了单模分布图型,形状参数m为7左右。我们认为这种纤维的破坏可能要归因于炉拉污染。外推结果表明:在破坏几率大约为2.5%时,1km长的纤维的破断力可达1kg。

【Abstract】 The mechnical strength of optical fibers is one of the major areas requiring evaluationbefore their possible use in telecommunication applications. In this paper, the tensilestrength of optical fibers drawn from graphite resistance furnace and coated with UV-curedepoxy acrylate resin is presented.The data are analysed with Weibull statistical distribu-tion. The results of experiment indicate that strength is improved by the combination ofthe fused quartz supporting tube of better quality and fire-polished preform-surface. Themeasurements of short term strength of specimens of 0.5m gauge length show that theminimum value is 2.2GN/m~2, and the arithmetic mean value is 3.8GN/m~2.The single modedistribution of some optical fibers has been observed, its shape parameter m being about7. The failure of these fibers can be attributed to the contamination of furnace while thefiber is being drawn.The strength data extrapolated show that at failure probability about2.5%, the breakage load of fiber of 1 km gauge length could be 1 kg.
