【Abstract】 the first one concerns itself with the overview of seismic gap research,including a brief account of the recent studies of seismic gaps,the seismic gap itself and its classifications,dynamic characteristics of premonitory gaps,relationship between gap parameters and pertinent mainshock parameters,as well as applications of the gaps to earthquake prediction practices.It especially mentions that Masakazu Ohtake et al.made a successful prediction of the rupture zone and the types of the rupture for the 1978 Oaxaca earthquake with M=7.8,in line with the relative seismic quies- cence and time-space distributions of contemporary large earthquakes.It also presents that the seismic gap patterns,regarded as a significant evidence have been widely applied to the earthquake prediction practices in China.更多还原
