【Abstract】 This paper deals with the ultimate strength of simple circular slabs in rega- rd to the effect of membrane action.A method of developing compressive membr- ane stress by the use of ring reinforcements has proposed, which gives a satisf- actory result.A formula is derived for the ultimate strength of circular slab involving membrane action. The fact that this action can increase the bearing resi- stance of the slab has-also been pointed out. slabs strengthened in this. way are especially useful for the foundation of chimneys, base slab of silos, etc, as their effective usage will become all the more prominent.更多还原
