【Abstract】 In this paper the structures of mathematical problems to be calculated in computers are analysed. There are three kinds:1. Serial computing problems.2. Parallel computing problems.3. Serial-parallel computing problems.Among them, the serial-parallel computing processing is the main type in scientific calculation. A tentative idea of a simple serial-parallel architecture is given here, and a preliminary analysis is made. The result of the analysis shows that the serial-parallel architecture is not only necessary but also feasible.A brief introduction about the possibility of the array architecture with distributed storage is also given.In recent years, the serial-parallel computing problems have drawn more attention, especially since CRAY-1, BSP and STAR-100A were put into work, the necessity and the feasibility of the serial-parallel architecture have been further justified.
