【Abstract】 Fujian Province is located at the subtropical region of Southeastern China, During the past several years a survey of the Amphibia and Reptilia had been carried out at the different districts of this province, and more than 5000 specimens were collected. Together with the past records made by the writers and other herpetologists, 44 species of Amphibia (belonging to 2 orders, 8 families and 10 genera) and 115 species of Reptilia (belonging to 3 orders, 15 families and 57 genera) had been found in this province. Among the 44 amphibian species, 41 of them belong to Oriental Realm and only 3 species belong to Palearctic Realm (Table 1). As to the 105 land reptilian species, 101 of them belong to Oriental Realm and only 4 species belong to Palearctic Realm (Table 2).For the analysis of the regional and subregional faunistic composition, based on the natural environmental conditions, the province is divided into five areas, namely, Southern, Middle, Eastern, Western and Northern Fujian (See map of Fujian ere are 26, 34 23, 17, 36 species of Amphibia and 71, 70, 45, 45, 81 species of Reptilia found respectively from the five areas mentioned above (Table 1 and 2). It is found that Northern Fujian where the highest peak of the Wuyi Mountain is located has the greatest number of either amphibian and reptilian species because of its environmental variety. As to the regional distribution of Amphibia, those species belonging to South China Region distribute only at Southern and Middle Fujian. The number of those species belonging to Middle China Region gradually decreases from Northern Fujian towards Southern Fujian, Those species belonging to both Central China and South China Regions distribute quite evenly in number at the different areas. However, concerning the regional distribution of the Reptilia, the situation is a little different from that of the Amphibia. The number of those species belonging to the South China Region decreases gradually from Southern Fujian towards Northern Fujian. The distribution of the ilia is not so clear cut as that of the Amphibia. This may be due to the fact that the reptiles have a greater adaptive ability than the amphibians. The number of those species belonging to the Middle China Region decreases gradually from Northern Fujian towards Southern Fujian, while the number of those species belonging to both South China Region and Middle China Region varies not much among the different areas.According to "The Zoogeographical Regions of China" by Cheng and Zhang from the study on the distribution of the avian and mammalian faunas, Fujian Province lies at the Eastern Plain and Hill Subregion of Middle China Region, and the Fujian and Guangdong Coastal Subregion of South China Region. The common boundary of the two Regions lies along the Dai-Yun and Bo-Ping mountain ranges, starting from the mouth of the Min River of Middle Fujian to Yong-Ding District of Southwestern Fujian. From the present study on the amphibian and reptilian distribution, it is found that the Middle and Southern Fujian as belong to South China Region and the Western, Eastern and Northern Fujian areas belong to Middle China Region. The boundary of these two Regions in Fujian Proivence coincides quite well with that proposed by Cheng and Zhang.
