【Abstract】 1. In the first step, three large regions are divided to reflect the combined effectof hydrothermal conditions. In the northwest, the water insuficiency hampers thefunction of warmth; in the Tibetan Plateau, the low temperature hinders the fullutility of water; it is only in the monsoon area, where precipitation occurs in thewarm period, does the water-heat combination yield better results. These three regionsare of order 1.2. Regions of order 2 are based on the main crops and cropping systems. Takingthe accumulated temperature above 10℃ (Σt) as the main index. The subsidiaryindices for the regions of high accumulated temperature are the temperature of thecoldest month (TM) and the mean of absolute minimum temperature of the years(TAM); for the regions of low aecumulated temperature, the temperature of the war-mest month is adopted (see table 2).3. For regions of order 3, the aridity (K) is adopted as the main index, basedon the formula K = Owing to the fact that the above formula used theΣt(>10℃) and the dry period in most areas of China appears in the period <10℃,a subsidiary index based on the formula D = is adopted here to show the actualduration of the wet, moist, semiarid and arid periods respectively.4. The result of regionalization is shown in map 3.Finally, a disoaseion is made on the significance of agroclimatic regionalization withrespect to the development of agriculture. There are some problems such as thecultivating of rubber tree as far north as the subtropical belt, tea as far north as theShandong Peninsula, and sugar beets as far south as the Youngtze Valley, to expandthe acreage of thermophilous crops into northeast.
