【Abstract】 In this Study, -we investigated the effect of cyclic adenosine monopho-sphate on chromosomes and mitosis ofU14 cells and tentatively discussed the mechanism of its inhibitary action on tumor.1 . The stemline of ascites tumorU14 was determined.The modal number of chromosomes is 44 with a frequency of 30-52%and 3 ma rkers are observed (one large submetacentric and 2 minute Chromosomes). The chromosome number distributions of the stemline and nonstemlime cells were found to be rather constant after several examinations. All these can be used as a basis for further cytogenetic study with transplantable tumor u14.2 . We demonstrated that intraperitoneal injections of cAMP not only inhibited the mitosis of tumor cells, but also reduced the steuline and raised the nonstemline with a chromosome number greater than triploidy. This is probably one of the factors accounting for lowered growth rate and regression of tuuors.3 . Subcutaneous injections of cAMP could also inhibit the mitosis, but these neither significantly reduced the number of stemline, nor raised the frequency of aneuploid cells.4 . Both intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections of cAMP induced the change of composition of marker chromosomes in some tumor cells.
