【Abstract】 The application of the thermodynamic principles of irreversible processes to the studies of biochemical feedbacks is handicapped by the strict linearity requirements imposed on the thermodynamic flux and force relationship. In this paper we suggest a method for the evaluation of the entropy production in an open biochemical system by the empirical data obtained from the studies of its kinetic behaviours, as it responses to the small perturbation around the stationary state.Our results show that the Onsager’s reciprocal relation no longer holds for the far-off equilibrium stationary states. Therefore the matrix of the phenomenological coefficients contains both symetrical and antisymetrical terms. The entropy production of the stationary state of the system may be written as: where the lijs are the phenomenological coefficients.The possible complications and the limitations of the method are briefly discussed.
