【Abstract】 Fluctuation in the electric discharging from the bulbar reticular formation of the cat (or rabbit) has been used as one of the objective indicators of the visceral pain reactiun elicited by traction of the animal’s stomach. This reaction can be partially inhibited by acupuncture at renzhong (人中) and shangjizhong (上脊中) points.After transection of the superior colliculi by the upper margin there was a weakening of both visceral pain reaction and inhibitory effect of acupuncture to some extent, (?)t their patterns of reaction still remain unchanged.This suggests that the brain stem, including the bulbar reticular formation plays an important role in the visceral pain inhibition by acupuncture.更多还原
