【Abstract】 Observations on the hibernation of the eggs of Anopheles hyrcanus sinensis werecarried out during the winter between 1961 and 1962 in Chen-tze of Wukiang Hsien,Kiansu Province. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Two batches of eggs containing 1327 eggs of the small type and 342 eggs ofthe large type of the A. hyrcanus sinensis deposited in late autumn were put separatelyand kept afloat on water in two large porcelain vessels placed in the open throughoutthe winter till spring. In the spring from February to April, half of the eggs of thesmall type (49.8%) hatched but none of the large type hatched. During the winter thewater in the porcelain vessels had frozen and thawn several times within a period of45 days. 2. Examinations for anopheline egg in the field were made during the winter, and80 eggs of the small type of A. h. sinensis were found on the surface of water ofbreeding places. All of these eggs were found to contain vival larva either by dissec-tion or by hatching in the laboratory. 3. Out of 55 samples of moist earth collected during the winter from variousbreeding places, which were immersed in water and kept at room temperature sincecollection, 6 produced anopheline larva in February. The larva, which totalled 13, werereared and all hatched into adults which were identified as the small type of A. h.sinensts. These observations clearly indicate that the small type of A. h. sinensis pass thewinter in their natural breeding grounds in the egg stage. It was also found that theoverwintering eggs were much larger than the summer ones and that there are certainmorphological differences between them.更多还原
