ANCIENT HUMAN SKELETAL REMAINS FROM LINCHIH VILLAGE, EASTERN TIBET
【Abstract】 The human skeletal remains including a skull cap, a lower jaw, a manubrium of sternal bone and a left calcaneus and so on were found near Linchih Village, eastern Tibet, in December, 1958. No artifacts or mammalian fossils were found at the site. The human remains belong to a young female individual and possess some primitive characters such as the more posterior position of bregma, thicker parietal bone, robust mandible and teeth, etc. Besides, they show some special features such as the incisive spine, tuberculum suprasternalis and trochler process of calcaneus. The morphological features, especially the nasal bone and the shovel-shaped upper canine tooth, indicate that they are closer to the Mongoloid skulls of the late Neolithic or Aeneolithic age. Judging from the characters of the brachycephalus, the lesser value of palatine breadth and the least frontal breadth, they are probably related to the A-type of Tibetan (Morant, 1923).
