【Abstract】 In our avifaunal studies of Liang Shan Ranges of the Sichuan Province, We havediscovered a new subspecies of the bar-backed laughihg thrush, which we proposeto name as: Garrulax lunulatus liangshanensis, subsp. nov. Holotype: Adult male (Field number:8096) collected from Daqiao People’sCommune, Ganluo Xian, Sichuan, on Feb. 6, 1977. Paratypes: Five adult male (Field number: 8400,8324, 8414, 8451, 8490) and sixadult females (Field numbers: 6687, 8097, 8099, 8450, 8489,8500) collected from thesame locality as holotype, on Nov. 16,1973; Feb.6-8,1977; Sept.19,Nov.25, andDec.2-11,1978. All the type specimens are deposited in the Bird Room of Sichuan AgriculturalCollege. Diagnosis:Similar to G.l.lunulatus,but the forehead,crown,and hind neckblackish-brown, as against chestnut-brown of the latter subspecies; sides of head as wellas the chin, throat, and upper breast pale blackish-brown, as against pale chestnut-brown; grey color of the sides of neck as well as the lower breast also darker than thatof the nominate lunulatus. The feathers of the back tipped white in G.l.bieti,and not rufous as in both thenominate lunulatus and our new subspecies. Specimens examined: G.l.lunulatus: 11?7?, collected from Baoxing (Oct. 27,Nov.28,Dec.1-23,1962;Apr. 1,May 28-31,1963; Dec.1-6,1964),Wanyuan(July 8,1958),Sichuan. G. l. liangshanensis subsp. nov.: 6?6?,collected from Ganluo,Sichuan (Nov.16, 1973; Feb. 6-8, 1977; Sept. 19, Nov. 25, Dec. 2-11,1978).
