【Abstract】 The present paper deals with four known species and one new subspecies collectedfrom China. All specimens, including holotype, allotype and paratypes of the new sub-species, are deposited in the museum of Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica. Hylastes parallelus techangensis, subsp. nov. (Pl.Ⅰ, Fig. 3, 6, 9) Length 3.1-3.5 mm, black or blackish brown, shining, pronotum blackish, elytradark brown, antennae, tarsi red-brown. Rostrum carinate, with a transverse furrow at the middle, vertex, frons and rostrumdensely punctured, sparsely pubescent with fine, yellowish hairs. Pronotum longer than broad, length about 1.-1.2 times to width, lateral marginsindistinctly arched, sparsely covered with round or ovoid punctures on the disk, but dense-ly punctured with jointed or nephroid punctures at the sides, punctures near costal mar-gin smaller, shallow. Pronotum inconspicuously pubescent on the disk, sometimes witha shorter and lighter hair behind each puncture, but puncture of sides each usually witha distinct black hair. The longitudinal mid-line of the pronotum prominent. Scutellum small, round. Elytra with the length about 1.9-2.0 times of total width, striae narrow, punctureslarge and sparsely distributed, interstices smooth, somewhat elevated, with a single seriesof irregular punctures, elytra rather bald, sparsely pubescent near the base, interstices ofdeclivity with a single row of fine tubercles, each with a short, elevated, golden brist1e,sometimes sparsely covered with scale-like hairs on the declivity. Thorax and abdominal segments rough and closely punctured, 1st-4th abdominalsegments densely pubescent with yellow hairs, the hairs of 2nd-4th segments ratherrougher and darker, congregated to the hind margin of each segment, last segment infemale rather flattened, punctures and hairs sparsely distributed, while the male with thelast segment somewhat concave at the middle, punctures and hairs densely distributed. Penis similar to Hylastes parallelus Chap. (Fig. 3) The new subspecies differs from the nominate subspecies by having the body sizesmaller, pronotum rectangular, strial punctures sparsely distributed, and the last ab-dominal segment more densely ciliated (Pl. 1, Fig. 9).
