俗文学的地域个性与都市消费情结

【摘要】 清代扬州是个引人注目的大城市,它不只经济十分发达,文学艺术也达到了封建社会的辉煌峰顶。以清代扬州俗文学作为个案,对它的盛衰成因与文化特点试从地域文化个性视角进行分析,既是继承扬州俗文学传统的现实需要,也是复兴扬州俗文学事业的理论准备;还是在城市规模日益扩展的今天,为适应提高市民素质迫切要求所作的有益探索。 本文共分6章。第1章为“清代扬州俗文学活动述略”。清代扬州俗文学界名家辈出,名作如林。虽然没有建立社团,标榜门户,但共同的地理环境、社会背景和文化传统,却使扬州的俗文学具有很多相似或相同的风韵与标格。他们以描写风土、反映现实为己任,形成了一个具有鲜明地方色彩的“扬州派”。俗文学活动的主体是普通的市民与艺人以及一批知识分子。清代扬州俗文学述略,笔者用了最粗略的划分,即按照表现形式将其分为:口承俗文学活动和笔传俗文学活动。口承俗文学活动中又根据功用的不同侧重将其分为:侧重叙事的扬州评话、侧重抒情的扬州戏曲。其中扬州戏曲还可以分为扬州戏剧和扬州俗曲。笔传俗文学活动分为:竹枝词、风土笔记文章以及侧重游戏的扬州灯谜诗钟等等。 第2~5章分别从“文化地理条件”、“历史传承脉络”、“都市民俗风情”、“生产消费特征”方面分别剖析清代扬州俗文学生成的各种因素。笔者从清代扬州俗文学生成的社会地理条件中提取了三个代表:即水、盐和杨柳;从“诗文扬州”、“歌吹扬州”和“礼俗扬州”三个方面来分析清代扬州俗文学生成的历史积淀;从“方言民俗”、“仪式祭祀”、“茶肆书坊”、“行规惯制”四个角度来梳理清代扬州俗文学生成的都市民俗风情;从“实用性”、“夸示性”和“人格化”三个层次提炼了清代扬州俗文学的消费特征。 第6章为“清代尾声中的扬州俗文学活动”,简析了清末扬州俗文学活动中几种“相反相成”的比照关系,从以后兴起的“鸳鸯蝴蝶”来看其对清代扬州俗文学活动的“精神延续”。最后对当下都市俗文学蓬勃发展之必然趋势作了反思。笔者觉得俗文学万变不离其宗,其根本是本土的,这一点无法改变。发展中既要保持与时代同步,又要保持自己的个性;既要有广博的胸襟,又要有前卫的意识。
【Abstract】 Yangzhou in Qing Dynasty ( 1644-1911) emerged as a noteworthy big city in terms of its advanced economic development and its greatest achievements in art and literature. With the vision for the temporary demand to inherit the tradition and the theoretical preparation to reconstruct the course of the Yangzhou popular literature, this dissertation, a case study of Yangzhou popular literature in Qing Dynasty, has analysed, from the perspective of regional cultural aspects, the rise and fall and the unique cultural specialties of Yangzhou popular literature. The author hopes, with the increasing urban expansion, to offer a pioneer exploration in meeting the needs to raise the qualities of the urban citizens.The dissertation is divided into six chapters. In Chapter One, the author has surveyed the popular literary activities in Yangzhou in Qing Dynasty. There emerged many famous writers and masterpieces then. Though those writers did not form special groups and claimed themselves as special literary approaches, their literary works demonstrated some common and similar styles and characteristics due to the same common geographic environment, social background and cultural traditions. These writers formed special "Yangzhou Approach" by putting much emphasis on describing the local contemporary popular life and the reality, specifically the life of the common folks, the artists and the intellectuals. The author has roughly divided the Yangzhou popular literature, based on its literary forms, into two categories: oral and written literary creations. The oral one, according to its different functions, is further divided into Yangzhou story-telling, which emphasized the narration, and Yangzhou opera, which emphasized the emotions. Yangzhou Opera is further divided into Yangzhou performing opera and Yangzhou folk songs. The written creations include Zhuzhi poetry, essays describing the folk life and amusing riddles etc.In Chapter Two to Chapter Five, the author has made great endeavour to have analyzed the formative factors of Yangzhou popular literature from the perspectives of cultural geography, historical traditions, urban folk life styles and production and consumption patterns and features. The author has summarized three representative aspects from its formative social geographical factors: water, salt and willow to discuss the characteristics of its popular literature. The author has explored the historical traditions of Yangzhou from poetry, songs and rituals and discussed the formative factors of Yangzhou’s popular literature from four aspects: i.e. the dialect, ritual and sacrifice, teahouse and bookstore and trade institutions. The author has also explored the literary consumptive features from three aspects: its pragmatic features, exaggeration and personification. In "Yangzhou popular literary creations in the later Qing Dynasty ", the sixth chapter of the dissertation, the author has briefly analyzed the antithesis concerning its popular literature. The author has pointed out that the spiritual heritage of the former Yangzhou popular literature in "Yuanyang Hudie ( Mandarin Duck and Butterfly)" , the early urban popular literature. In the end of the dissertation, reflecting on the flourishing contemporary urban popular literature, the author has concluded that the soul of popular literature lies in its localness. The prosperity of popular culture exists in maintaining its unique character while keeping up with the modern development and embracing all factors while bearing the avant-guard character.
